Pulau Sumatra (juga dieja Sumatera) yang terletak di Indonesia, merupakan pulau keenam terbesar di dunia, dengan luas 473.480 km2. Penduduk pulau ini sekitar 21.000.000 jiwa (2003).
Di pulau Sumatra pernah terdapat kerajaan Samudra (sekarang Aceh), pada kunjungannya ke pulau tersebut Ibnu Battuta (cendekiawan Islam asal Maroko) selalu melafalkan kata Samudra menjadi Sumatra, semenjak saat itu nama Sumatra dikenal luas sebagai nama pulau tersebut.
Sebelum dikenal dengan nama Sumatra, Pulau tersebut dikenal dengan nama Pulau Andalas.
