In the early to mid 1930’s, Carnival Bands started appearing in and around the East Midland Counties of England mainly but not exclusively Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire and Northamptonshire.

Due to the recession, it was a way of providing themselves and anyone who wished to watch, with some entertainment while raising monies for local Hospitals. Early instruments were made from paper and combs (Kazoos) and home made drums, or anything that would make a noise. As these bands expanded and funds became available the make shift instruments where replaced by mainly bass (trumpets, cornets, fugal and Euphonium) and drums.
