Sawtry is a village in Cambridgeshire, England. Its population is around seven thousand. Sawtry is near the city of Peterborough, and even nearer to the town of Huntingdon. Other nearby villages include Alconbury, St. Ives, Holme, Yaxley, and Stilton. Sawtry has two public houses - The Bell and The Greystones. It has a Community college which educates many young people from nearby villages. There is also a public swimming pool and gym.

History

During the dark ages, Sawtry was in fact divided into three 'Sawtries'. Sawtry originally got its name from the fact that it was a trading centre for salt, an essential commodity in the Middle Ages. There was also a monastery in the area which ministered to the local area both spiritually and physically at the hospital. The village is now home to over 7000 people, and being located near to the A1 motorway, it is a sought after location for commuters.
