Waringstown is a village in County Down, Northern Ireland, about 4km from Lurgan. In the 2001 Census it had a population of 2,529 people. It lies within the Craigavon Borough Council area.
Waringstown is named after William Warren, a Cromwellian General, who built the central Waringstown house in 1667. It was a two storey Jacobean-style gentleman's house and one of the first unfortified houses in Ireland, to which a third storey was added later. The weaving village of Waringstown developed under the auspices of his descendants. Warren’s son Samuel brought Flemish weavers to the village, building Huguenot style cottages for them, some of which survive today. In the past, the village was renowned for its handloom damask weaving, but now is best known for The Lawn cricket ground. The industrial focus was at the southern end of the town, where brewing, linen-weaving, and cambric and clothing manufacture were formerly carried out and where some substantial 18th century and 19th century industrial buildings still exist. The village has many flower displays and has previously won the Best Kept Small Town, Ulster In Bloom and Entente Florale competitions.
