Missouri (, , , or , named after the Missouri Siouan Indian tribe meaning "town of the large canoes", is a central state in the United States. It is considered by most of its inhabitants to be a Midwestern state, but it has many Southern cultural influences. The state's nickname is the Show-MeState The Mississippi and Missouri rivers are the two large rivers which flow through the state.

Missouri lawyers issued their report card Thursday on 13 area judges, and everybody passed. The report from the Missouri Bar and the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association recommended that voters retain all judges on the November ballot in Jackson, Clay and Platte counties. Such judges must face periodic retention elections under Missouri’s nonpartisan court plan.

The family of a man murdered a year ago has added money to the reward fund for finding the killer. Jeffrey Barr, 45, was found shot in the yard of a home in the 2200 block of South Glenwood Avenue in Independence. He died a short time later.

By JOE MEYER of the Tribune’s staff Investigators have classified the death of 53-year-old Helen Sanders as a homicide after receiving a completed autopsy report from the Boone County medical examiner’s office this week.
