A government is a body that has the authority to make and the power to enforce laws within a civil, corporate, religious, academic, or other organization or group. In its broadest sense, "to govern" means to administer or supervise, whether over a state, a set group of people, or a collection of assets.
The word government is derived from the Greek Κυβερνήτης (kyvernites), which means "steersman", "governor", "pilot" or "rudder".
Typically, "the government" refers to the executive function. In many countries (particularly those having parliamentary systems), the Government refers to the executive branch of government or a specifically named executive, i.e. the Blair Government (compare to the administration as in the Clinton administration in U.S. usage). The Welsh Assembly Government is the name of the executive branch of Wales, and Scottish Government is the unofficial term to describe the Scottish Executive. In countries using the Westminster system, the party in government will also usually control the legislature.

Improving U.S. 17 Bypass presents some conundrums.For example, one way to relieve traffic on the main north-south thoroughfare is to add more lanes. But doing so, transportation experts say, will draw a lot more traffic to the road.If the road isn't widened, there still will be more traffic on it as the region grows. And if traffic is siphoned to other thruways, such as S.C. 31, those roads will eventually become problems.

The rain drove horizontally across the beach at Myrtle Beach State Park as the sun tried to climb over the edge of the earth in the east.Parks Program Director Ann Malys Wilson and a group of turtle volunteers huddled against the rain, knowing that if they were to save any loggerhead sea turtles that remained in the nest, it needed to happen on this Friday morning. Seas were expected to rise from the winds associated with weather systems around Tropical Storm Fay.Almost on cue, the driving rain came to a halt, and Wilson and the group moved to the nest to take advantage of the break.

Barbara Hytower's daughter, Jamila, seemed blessed.At 22, Jamila survived a shooting at a Myrtle Beach nightclub in 2005. She was shot four times.
